Van Quan

A village in Van Quan driven to kick-start their socio-economic development

A village located in Binh Phuc Commune called Lung Thuoc Village is marked by its hard-working and ambitious inhabitants.

The Van Quan authorities are extremely supportive and provide us with a range of amenities during our operations within their commune.

Lung Thuoc is a small isolated village located 11 km from the centre of Chi Lang district and reaching the village involves a 3 km hike through the mountains. The village is occupied by 7 families who live in wooden shacks without any access to electricity. The villagers lead a very harsh life engaging in subsistence agriculture and raising livestock for personal use. The houses don’t have any air sealing and get very cold during the winter months due to air drafts. All the cooking is done indoors using firewood and this leads to the air quality indoors being very bad.

The Lotus team spent a few days surveying the site and interviewing the villager and local authorities earlier this year and they are eager to work with us. Due to its isolated location, there is no future plan to connect the village to the national electric grid and a small off-grid solar PV system would have a big impact on the lives of the villagers and improve their standard of living.
